I have been a firearms enthusiast as far back as I can remember. I was in diapers when my dad started teaching firearms safety (as well as can be taught)! Real gun, toy gun...this one's safe, not that one...I guess that makes me a lifelong student. In case you doubt my story, I have a polaroid to prove it! But seriously, I've always been fascinated with firearms and shooting which naturally grew as I got older and was able to purchase them for myself. I have been a concealed carry practitioner since I was 21 (almost 19 years now) and have grown and adapted as the methods and tools have changed and improved. While my time in college at the US Naval Academy and subsequently in the Marine Corps as a helicopter pilot kept me pretty busy, my thirst to learn from the industry and field experts couldn't be quenched. I've always learned at every opportunity and never considered my knowledge of firearms, their accessories, and their use to be at a plateau.
I served honorably in the Marines for 14 years and earned multiple pistol and rifle expert qualifications during that time. That opportunity also gave me a lot of exposure to other weapons systems, conventional and urban tactics, base defense, and anti-terrorism force protection. I also have experience in Kodokan Judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and Marine Corps Martial Arts.
Post Marine Corps and most recently, I've pursued training and instructor qualifications with the US Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and am a Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals instructor and Countering the Mass Shooter Threat and Church Security instructor. I believe the best instructors are similar to the best students, in that they are teachable and always looking to learn something they didn't know before. It is to that end that I endeavor so that anyone I work with isn't getting information, tactics, techniques, or procedures that are outdated or no longer relevant. There is not a "one size fits all" approach to this type of training, and having a handle of the various methods that exist enables me to navigate the differences and limitations each person has and find a winning solution. THAT is my ultimate goal. No student is just a number in a class to me, but a brother or sister in this way of life and I look forward to an opportunity to work with each and every one of you as you pursue one of America's most time-honored traditions! 'Merica!!
