Jon Waide is a retired Tempe (AZ) Police Department sergeant with over 26 years of military and civilian law enforcement experience. He is currently the Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Field Operations Senior Manager in Los Angeles, California.
While serving in the United States Air Force as a Security Specialist, Jon was assigned duties safeguarding nuclear weapons storage areas and delivery systems in the US and overseas as a Fire Team Leader, Convoy Commander, and Master Surveillance Control Facility Operator.
After being honorably discharged from the military Jon joined the Tempe Police Department (TPD) as a uniformed patrol officer. During his 20 year civilian law enforcement career he performed duties as a Field Training Officer, Special Investigations Bureau Gang Unit Detective, Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant, Attacking Crime Trends In Our Neighborhood (A.C.T.I.O.N.) Team Sergeant, Field Training Sergeant, and Patrol Division Senior Sergeant.
Following his retirement from the TPD, Jon was appointed as Law Enforcement Liaison for the Federal Railroad Administration’s Region Seven. In this capacity he was tasked with training first responders throughout the Western US to respond to railroad related incidents and enforce criminal or civil statutes pertaining to crimes occurring on railroad property, and officer safety.
As the Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Field Operations Senior Manager, he administers the agency’s Law Enforcement Outreach Program and acts as the program’s primary trainer. Jon is a POST certified instructor at the California Coroner Training Center, teaching a two hour “Railroad Fatalities and Scene Safety for Death Investigators” block of instruction as part of the POST 80-hour Basic Death Investigators Course. Jon is a certified active shooter instructor and assists in rail transportation active shooter training for Los Angeles area law enforcement agencies.
